You're getting some rules to help you recover at home after your surgery. This info is extra advice to go along with what your doctor told you.Sometimes, you might feel pain in your shoulder for a few days. This happens because of gas used during surgery. It goes away on its own, so no need to worry.
General Guidelines
- No sex for 10 weeks.
- Don't lift heavy stuff or push hard for 6 weeks. You can start doing light housework, biking, and driving when you feel up to it. After a few weeks, you can slowly get back to exercising. If you feel pain or tired, take it easy.
- Skip swimming or baths for 2 weeks to avoid infections. It's okay to shower. Gently pat your belly dry.
- You might have some vaginal bleeding for a few weeks. Call us if it's more than a regular period.
- If dye was used during surgery, your pee/poop might look green or blue.
Pain Tips
For the first three days after the surgery, take ibuprofen 800 mg or naproxen 250-500 mg three times a day, combined with paracetamol 1000 mg three times a day (you can take these simultaneously), unless you have allergies to any of these medications. After three days, take this medication as needed. Do not wait until the pain becomes too severe. Adhere as much as possible to your doctor and nurse's instructions. If the pain persists or changes, contact us.
Wound Care
Take off the bandages the day after surgery. If the wounds aren't leaking, no need for more bandages. Wounds heal better when they get air. The stitches will dissolve on their own. Keep the wound clean and dry.
Follow-up
Our nurse will call you after 2 weeks to check how you're doing. They'll talk about the results of the tissue that was removed during surgery. You'll see the gynecologist 6 weeks after surgery. These appointments will be emailed to you, and you can check them in the Reinier de Graaf patient portal.
